Incorporated in 1906, the city of Holly Springs quickly grew around a busy train depot established by the L&N Railroad. The depot is now the Holly Springs Community Center, restored by the city in the late 1990s, and stands as a historic landmark for the city’s residents. Locals often gather at events such as the Holly Springs Farmers Market or the annual Holly Springs Arts Festival.
Holly Springs’ much-anticipated Town Center Project has been in the making for many years, marked by a groundbreaking ceremony in September 2021 to establish the official start of construction. Development for this project is near the intersection of Hickory Road and Holly Springs Parkway, resulting in a walkable, main street-inspired area offering a mix of retail, restaurant, and residential neighborhoods. The project will also house a new three-story, 16,000 square foot city hall and green space, perfect for festivals and community events.
Close proximity to numerous city and county parks around Holly Springs make it a great location for outdoor recreational activities, including fishing, hiking, kayaking and mountain biking. Blankets Creek mountain biking trails are a short drive away, and Old Rope Mill Park, another popular outdoor destination, is located in the southern part of Cherokee County and offers biking trails, picnic areas & a river for fishing & canoeing.
Easily accessible from Holly Springs and I-575, the Cherokee County Aquatic Center is a full-service facility with two indoor pools and one outdoor leisure pool with a water playground, two water slides, pavilions, and more. The facility also offers instructional, fitness, therapeutic, competitive and recreational swimming opportunities.
