Linden brings “Je Ne Sais Quoi” to Woodstock

“If I can’t always visit the places I want, then I have to bring those places to me.”

Fortunately for Francophiles all over Cherokee County, Laurie Prentice, owner of Linden in Downtown Woodstock, tends to share in that sentiment. Laurie specializes in French and English antiques and makes several trips a year to Europe to find new items for her treasure trove of a store on Main Street. “I think I might’ve been a gypsy in another life,” says Laurie, whose latest buying adventure led her to the Prague markets in the Czech Republic.

A Little European Culture On Main Street

The concept for Linden materialized gradually for Laurie after she tagged along with a friend on a trip to England. “I volunteered to be the chauffeur because everyone was afraid to drive over there,” recalls Laurie. It was that trip that would reveal her knack for choosing the unique decorating objects that she likes to describe as “relative to pieces of art.” Her interest and specialized knowledge in horticulture also leads her outside her Woodstock doors to host garden parties for both young and old alike in the shop’s manicured courtyard. “My wish,” says Laurie of the shop’s greatest objective, ” is for people to step out of traditional decorating styles and appreciate the unexpected things that you don’t see everywhere.”
