Money’s Methodology
To determine their rankings, Money analyzed thousands of different places in the United States with populations ranging from 25,000 up to 500,000. Then, they looked at nearly 100 different metrics with a total of over 300,000 different data points organized into nine categories:
- Cost of Living
- Economic opportunity
- Diversity
- Education
- Amenities
- Health & safety
- Housing market
- Income & personal finances
- Quality of life
To keep their goal of highlighting the affordability of each location, they put extra weight on the cost of living, economic opportunity, and housing affordability.
